November 28, 2024, marked a milestone in my journey—I finally landed an Outreachy internship with Mozilla Firefox on my fourth attempt! The past two years came with setbacks, where circumstances beyond my control stood in the way of success. It felt like I was stuck in an era of “almost there.” But here I am now, proof that perseverance pays off. I couldn’t be more thrilled to embark on this incredible chapter!

Who is Temidayo?

I’m Temidayo, a software engineer with an insatiable curiosity and a love for tackling challenges head-on.

My tech journey began in the world of technical writing, where I honed my communication skills and built a foundation for understanding complex systems. However, my heart was always in coding—building impactful products and solving real-world problems. I wanted to create, innovate, and be part of something transformative. While technical writing gave me valuable experience, I knew software engineering was where I could truly shine.

My Core Values

  • Growth: Personal and professional growth is my north star. It drives everything I do and fuels my desire to become better every day.

  • Ambition: I’m passionate about working on projects with global reach and impact. Being accepted to intern with Mozilla Firefox feels like a dream step in that direction.

  • Challenge: I thrive on challenges that push my imagination and skills to their limits. Growth doesn’t come from staying comfortable—it comes from stepping into the unknown and embracing the pressure. The satisfaction of overcoming obstacles makes every uncomfortable moment worthwhile.

What Motivated Me to Apply to Outreachy?

In one word: impact.

I’ve always wanted to be part of a global team using technology to make a difference. Open source offers a unique space to do just that—collaborating across borders, solving meaningful problems, and learning from diverse perspectives.

Outreachy stood out as the perfect opportunity to immerse myself in open source and contribute to something bigger than myself. As an early-career software engineer, I’m exploring the possibility of a long-term career in open source, and this internship feels like the first step toward that dream.

I can’t wait to see what this journey has in store, and I’m excited to share my experiences along the way. Here’s to learning, growing, and making an impact!
